Winter

Winter

The seasons are shifting to a winter wonderland in the Southwest Pennsylvania mountains. Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture stands proud in the snow-covered landscape. The leaves have fallen and without the canopy of foliage the landscape becomes more open expanding majestically revealing the radical geometry of the house. You can truly appreciate the 60- and 120-degree angles as they cut through the white, minimalist landscape.

Kentuck Knob was a lived-in family home for the Hagans for decades. In winter, the radiant-heated Cherokee red floors and the massive stone fireplace make it feel like the ultimate mountain retreat.

There is a profound silence in the Laurel Highlands in winter. Standing on the back terrace looking out over the frosted gorge, you understand Wright’s ultimate goal: serenity.

Limited winter tours offer a rare glimpse of the "Mountain House" in the snow.

Throughout November we're open daily 12-3pm. Tours are also available on weekends during December and daily from Boxing Day on the 26th to New Years Eve on the 30th.
